Speech Enhancement and Replacement for Severely Hearing Impair
نویسندگان
چکیده
For several years, we have been working on means to improve speech reception for severely sensory hearing-impaired persons. The work done includes algorithms for non-linear speech processing as well as phoneme spotting and transposition. The overall goal is to implement some of these algorithms into low-power DSPs in a wearable device. Here we will present the current state of our research, and some examples of processed speech will be demonstrated.

Genesis of wearable DSP structures for selective speech enhancement and replacement to compensate severe hearing deficits
Conventional hearing instruments often cannot compensate the hearing losses to a sufficient degree. Digital signal processing offers novel chances to provide speech enhancement and replacement functionalities in a wearable device. Targeting such a device, a working laboratory prototype with DSPs was created.
متن کاملComparison of the Speech Syntactic Features between Hearing-Impaired and Normal Hearing Children
Introduction: The present study seeks to describe and analyze the syntactic features of children with severely hearing loss who had access to the hearing aids compared with children with normal hearing, assigning them to the same separate gender classes. Materials and Methods: In the present study, eight children with severe hearing impairment who used a hearing aid and eight hearing children...
متن کاملA New Method for Speech Enhancement Based on Incoherent Model Learning in Wavelet Transform Domain
Quality of speech signal significantly reduces in the presence of environmental noise signals and leads to the imperfect performance of hearing aid devices, automatic speech recognition systems, and mobile phones. In this paper, the single channel speech enhancement of the corrupted signals by the additive noise signals is considered. A dictionary-based algorithm is proposed to train the speech...
متن کاملComparison of Titanium vs. Polycel Total Ossicular Replacement Prosthesis
Introduction: Even though modern technology progresses so rapidly, annals of otology are replete with so many challenging article, which often compare various types of prosthesis. Since there has not been a prospective randomized clinical trial study which compares the hearing result of total ossicular replacement prosthesis made of Titanium with omega connector and Polycel in the literature, w...
متن کاملIntelligibility enhancement of human speech for severely hearing impaired persons by dedicated digital processing
Sensory hearing-impaired people with severe auditory deficit are neither candidate for cochlear implants nor can they benefit sufficiently from conventional hearing aids. Since they usually suffer from total loss of reception of components from the higher spectrum, but may have sufficient residual sensitivity and selectivity below 1.5 kHz to receive at least part of the speech energy directly, ...
